members announce IT association
DUBAI - Members of the Dubai Internet City community yesterday
announced the creation of the Dubai IT Association, an industry
body that seeks to drive the development of information and communication
technology (ICT) in Dubai.
Part of the vision of contributing to the development of Dubai
into a knowledge-based society and a global IT player, the association
will develop strategies, partnerships, policies and programmes
needed to advance the growth of ICT.
The Dubai IT Association will actively promote the adoption of
technology, education and innovation to accelerate ICT development.
It will also promote best practices and set benchmarks for building
an ICT-enabled society in Dubai where technology is considered
a utility.
"The Association will build partnerships with all ICT stakeholders,
both in private and government sectors, to enhance the momentum
of ICT growth," said Jamal Abdul Salam, Executive Director
of Dubai Internet City. "Dubai has even greater potential
for the growth of ICT, which we can tap only by actively promoting
innovation and R&D and the use of new technologies."
he added.
A host of ICT companies including global, regional and local
companies have already expressed their support for this major
initiative. The founding members of the Association include 3M,
Ducont, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Microsoft, Market Vision, Nokia,
and Sun Microsystems. Several other companies are also expected
to join the initiative.
